What working with us looks like
Complication expertise
Perpetual calendars, chronographs, and other multi-function mechanisms are where our technical knowledge is deepest. We do not work on everything, but what we do, we do properly.
Workshop-grade equipment
Calibrated press tools, timing machines, and pressure gauges are standard at the bench — not borrowed for special occasions. The right instrument for each task.
Written assessment first
Every watch receives a written condition summary before work begins. You know what was found, what is proposed, and what it costs before a single component is touched.
Specification-matched parts
Components are sourced to your watch's specifications. Near-enough substitutes are not used without explicit discussion. When correct parts take longer to arrive, we tell you.
Pressure testing included
Any service that opens the case or involves crown components includes a pressure test and gasket replacement as standard — not as an optional extra billed separately.
Direct technician contact
The person who assessed your watch is the person who repaired it. Questions about the work go to the same individual, without a service desk intermediary.
01 — Expertise
Fifteen years focused on mechanical movements.
The difference between general repair experience and focused complication experience shows most clearly under a loupe. Perpetual calendar mechanisms involve a chain of interconnected discs and levers that require understanding of the full sequence, not just the visible symptom. Stem and crown assemblies vary considerably between calibres, and substituting an incorrect stem can damage the setting mechanism or compromise water resistance.
Our lead technician trained formally in Switzerland before returning to Kuala Lumpur, and has spent fifteen years working on the specific category of watches where complications and sealing integrity require simultaneous consideration.
Perpetual and annual calendar mechanisms
Full corrector-sequence synchronisation and midnight changeover testing across multiple transitions.
Stem and crown assemblies
Extraction and replacement of broken stems with correct specification parts and full position testing.
Crystal fitting and sealing
Sapphire and mineral glass, with calibrated tooling and pressure verification after installation.
Timegrapher / timing machine
Rate and amplitude readings across multiple positions before any movement is returned.
Dry pressure gauge
Non-invasive pressure testing appropriate to each watch's rated depth resistance.
Calibrated press tools
Crystal and case back fitting performed under controlled pressure to prevent distortion.
02 — Equipment
The right tools, used routinely — not occasionally.
A timing machine reading after movement work is not a premium add-on here — it is a standard step before any watch leaves the bench. Similarly, pressure testing is not performed only when a customer asks; it is part of the process for any service that involves the case or crown.
This approach requires maintaining equipment in working calibration and building the cost of that discipline into the service price rather than treating it as optional. It means the work stands behind itself.
03 — Communication
No surprises on collection day.
The intake process at Retort Horologie produces a written summary — what condition the watch was in on arrival, what was found during assessment, what work is proposed, and the price. This document is shared with you before any repair begins. If the scope changes during work, we contact you before proceeding.
Collection day should be straightforward: the watch is returned in the condition described, with the work completed as agreed. No additional charges appear that were not discussed. No unapproved work was performed.

04 — Value
Transparent pricing with no hidden steps.
Our service prices are listed clearly. Each price covers the specific repair plus the standard steps that should accompany it — gasket replacement, pressure testing, timing verification. These are not billed as line-item additions.
If your watch needs additional work beyond the initial repair, that is quoted separately and performed only with your agreement. The invoice on collection matches what was discussed beforehand.

What sets us apart
Things we do that are not universal
Service history records
We maintain a log of all work performed on each watch we service. If your piece returns years later, we have a reference point — what was fitted, when, and at what condition — that informs how to approach any new work.
Postal handling with documentation
Clients outside Kuala Lumpur can send their watches by tracked courier. We photograph each piece thoroughly on receipt and share a condition report before work begins. Return shipping is organised at cost.
We decline polishes we are not asked for
Case and bracelet polishing removes metal and changes patina. We do not perform it unless specifically requested. The watch you collect looks like itself — not reinterpreted by someone with an opinion about what clean means.
Central KL address, accessible by transit
55 Jalan Sultan Ismail is reachable by LRT or monorail and sits within walking distance of the Bukit Bintang district. There is no need for a car. If you are commuting past, dropping off is straightforward.
